Earnings, Hours & Glass Ceilings
Glass ceiling: an unofficially acknowledged barrier to advancement in a profession
I was talking to a guy recently who makes good money ($150-$200k/yr). But for him, that income level comes at a price. That price is time. His income is directly tied to the number of hours he put into his work. If he doesn’t work, he doesn’t make money. If he works less hours, he makes less money. And, most importantly, he’s hit his glass ceiling. He can’t make any more money than he does because there’s a limit to how many hours he can physically work in a week.
It’s a tough spot to be in. In order to make a good wage, he has to put in tons of hours. And those hours come at a cost -> less time with family, no freedom, etc.
That’s probably one of the biggest things I appreciate about Real Estate and, in particular, putting together land deals. I can put together a land deal that makes me $75k. I can put together a land deal that makes me $500k. I can put together a land deal that makes me $1M. What I earn isn’t directly and only tied to the number of hours I can physically work. I don’t make an hourly wage.

And if you’ve hit your glass ceiling, or you know it’s right around the corner. It’s time to make a change. Don’t let 10 years, 5 years or even 1 year go by, only to find yourself having made no forward progress, not steps to building your wealth, no progress in achieving the lifestyle you’re after. Find your passion and go for it.
